Approximately 25,000 residences in southeastern Queensland woke up lacking electricity on the start of the week after severe thunderstorms swept through the area, producing strong winds reaching 109km/h.

Massive Hailstones and Broad Destruction

Homeowners reported large ice chunks as large as 7cm in particular locations. The Bureau of Meteorology announced that different parts across the state had been hit with large hailstones.

Response teams were focused on reestablishing energy supply throughout the affected regions, with nearly 70 crews working to manage the widespread outages.

Southern State's Weather Woes

At the same time, nearly 1,000 residents in Victoria also encountered power outages after the capital city experienced its heaviest rainfall in a year and a half.

Emergency response teams received 598 requests for assistance across the region, mainly for structural issues but also for downed trees and flooding.

• Wyndham area - nearly 180 help reports

At one point on Sunday, over twenty-eight thousand energy customers in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Meteorological Predictions

Moist weather were forecast to persist along large portions of eastern Queensland this week as a weather pattern continued to draw in moisture against the coastal areas.

The following day was expected to become the heaviest precipitation period, with persistent severe weather risk anticipated across different parts of both regions.

Medical Alert

Medical authorities alerted that there was an greater possibility of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the state's northern country region, specifically given the current weather patterns.

This caution comes after previous incidents where similar conditions led to substantial respiratory problems in the region.
