It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The top summits have already been conquered.

We're talking about the squad that has won seven Cricket World Cups, along with an additional six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed over three years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, those for the record chasers, are all that remain for a team that has achieved everything.

That it took up to Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, taking back their record for the largest in the women's 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the bowling attack that have sported the yellow jersey over the last half-century.

It's difficult for their hitters to maintain a record if never given the possibility.

In the end, the outcome of Australia allowing 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy getting a platform to deliver her newest gem.

Initially recognized as the teenage relative of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her nation failed to win either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups held the previous year and has seen it all through 15 successful years since.

A T20 championship victory happened three months after her first appearance and seven global championships have resulted from 10 tries across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India momentarily interrupted the winning streak.

That loss "motivated us to rethink our standards," Healy commented earlier.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the title decider and was named player of the tournament. She made sure her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this recent magnificent innings topped that previous effort is debatable.

Some will argue the reasoning behind the pressure of a final. Different voices suggest with the test that comes when confronting a historic chase and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's definite is this ton was far harder to predict.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 occurred when she was the highest scorer, but this knock came after six matches in India since the start of last month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"For those following me in training, it was a frustrating experience because it seemed I lacked timing completely," commented Healy.

"But once you take the field, your competitive instincts activate and you just lock into the contest."

Healy's competitiveness has always been her key asset - and an invaluable trait in succeeding iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, out to the emerging pace bowler in each encounter, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's spark.

One run resulted off the opening delivery and from that point the batsman was on her way.

"An opportunity to take the field and face the challenge with her and merely enjoy the moment that way, somewhat inspired me," said Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 pitches - her swiftest at a World Cup - and her century in 84 as she flogged anything short, hitting 21 fours and three maximums.

Once she was out the team required another 66 at one run per ball - a manageable total now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is unfamiliar ground so I'm happy we have the confidence to accomplish that now," added Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it again but, if necessary, we are confident we can succeed."

These statements will be the last rival teams at this World Cup need to hear.

In recent days a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has grown stronger - this success succeeding success over Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at a certain moment.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final berth may probably be guaranteed.

It was at that stage they were eliminated from the prior year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the inaugural occasion at a significant event.

Such is her determination, she later said she regretted not playing despite the injury.

Yet even as she afterwards confessed those fitness problems have postponed consideration of ending her career, this championship is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in one-day cricket and she is still to achieve an international tournament as captain.

Triumph in India would take her to the summit of her last major obstacle.
